BWOTW: 24/10/16 - 29/10/16

Hello dear readers, and welcome to another edition of 'Noah's Best Wrestling of the Week' AKA 'Negan > New Jack' AKA 'Writing This at Midnight on a Saturday Probably Wasn't The Best Idea'
Homer's reaction to the Sasha/Charlotte contract signing
But before we jump over the ropes into the main goodies, lets quickly peruse the news...
  1. Lesnar/Goldberg II has been confirmed for Survivor Series! Fingers crossed it's not as shite as WrestleMania XX!
  2. Lucha Underground is set to begin broadcast in Germany this December on the 10th. It's always great when pro wrestling gets more television coverage, especially internationally.
  3. Joshi (Japanese for 'female') wrestlers Io Shirai and possibly Kairi Hojo are being reported by Wrestling Observer to be coming to WWE. I dunno a whole lot about Hojo, but I know Shirai is fucking mental. Very excited to see these in NXT sometime in the future.
And now for the peanut butter in this PB'n'J sandwich, its the matches!

Monday Night RAW

Best Match on RAW (24/10/16): Rich Swann vs Brian Kendrick

Now, this was a pretty bad episode of RAW. But, we did have a nice match between Brian Kendrick and Rich Swann who once again wants to know if you can handle this.

Whilst the Cruiserweights aren't being given a major spotlight, they're still doing decent with the time they are given. Kendrick is by far the deepest character in the division, and Swann, in my opinion, the most entertaining.

Here, we've got the high pace of Swann battling the slower, beat-em-up style of Kendrick. We had a mix of Kendrick waring down Swann, who would soon shimy his way out of his clutches by utilising his speed and agility.

'Pretty move'! Fuck sake Cole put the effort in.

Not a massive match here, but it was one of the highlights of an otherwise pretty bad episode of RAW.

SmackDown! LIVE

Best Match on SD! (25/10/16): AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose

On the blue brand we've got the main event of AJ Styles taking on Dean Ambrose that took the crown as best match on the show. We got some real nice action here, with some insane spots considering that this is on SmackDown! Plus, Ellsworth's back!

Fairly early on we got Styles delivering a suplex to Dean on the apron. It didn't look like the apron got a whole lot of the impact becasue Dean went clattering to the goddamn floor. Proper nasty looking.

We also got to witness a thing of beauty, the Stylin' DDT.

What a goddamn move.

Ambrose wasn't the only target in AJ's sights, seeing as he straight up murdered Ellsworth at ringside.

A lot of it seemed to be Ambrose fighting uphill against a dominant Styles. The Calf Crusher was applied to a pretty damn horrific degree in this one, with Dean selling it like he'd just stepped into a bear trap.

It was a really good match, however it would end via disqualification when we got a superkick by Ellsworth onto the Styles' jaw, still, the match was good.

NXT

Best Match on NXT (26/10/16): Kota Ibushi & TJ Perkins vs Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali - Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match

Heading down to Florida now we've got some Dusty Classic action, featuring 4 competitors from the Cruiserweight Classic. Stepping in for the again injured Hideo Itami, we have the Cruiserweight Champion, TJ Perkins, who got one hell of a pop from the Fulll Sail crowd.

Lots of quick paced action in this one. Dorado and Ali had the upper hand over TJP for the majority of the first half, Ali really likes to do rolls in the ring, and he did a super cool springboard, reaching the top rope in one vertical leap.

Ibushi got the hot tag and went on a killing spree, kicking the white off of his opponents' bones. As well as his big bastarding kicks, he accompanied them with an awesome double Pele kick.

Had a nice bit of teamwork near the close the match between Ibushi and TJP, hitting a double team similar to a More Bang For Your Buck, with Ibushi getting a moonsault followed by a frog splash from Perkins.

Perkins locked in his pattented knee-bar to get the victory. Lots of dope wrestling in this one, keeping a quick pace to have our interest piqued throughout, with not a lot of low points.

Ring of Honour

Best Match on ROH TV (Episode 266): Kyle O'Reilly vs Johnathan Gresham

Very slow start to this one, very wrestle-y. O'Reilly and Gresham went for a good few minutes purely exchanging holds, which was a nice breath of fresh air with the prior quicker matches of the episode.

There wasn't a whole lot of flying from Gresham as we're used to in his other matches in ROH, perhaps with him being in the ring with the more technical O'Reilly he decided to show his hand at that sort of match. But either way, I really like Gresham.

It did evolve into adding some strikes to it, with O'Reilly particularly in favour of the exchanges, landing his nasty forearm shots to his opponent. O'Reilly seemed to be especially nasty in this one, with him ending the match with a combination of a guillatine choke followed by a brainbuster. Nice match here, can't really remember a whole lot about it otherwise.

As always, you can watch ROH TV for FREE at www.rohwrestling.com/tv/current or on the Fite TV app.

Lucha Undergound

Best Match on LU (S3E8): Texano vs Cage - Best of 5 Series

It's the third match in this series pitting Texano and Cage against each other for Cuerto's grand prize (which appears to be something pretty big).

I like to write down bullet points for matches for when I come to write them up, and for this one, I've got 'Big bastards doing big moves'. It was pretty similar to their first two matches, but at this point its becoming a bit of a blur between them. All I know is all their matches so far have been pretty damn good, and in the moment I was throroughly entertained by it.

These guys slammed the hell out of each other, with a superplex on that unforgiving lucha mat looking rather sore for both of them. I'm growing a bit fonder of Texano the more I see him, but I think I'm still rooting for Cage in this series.

The Verdict

Best Match of the Week: Kota Ibushi & TJ Perkins vs Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali - Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match

This was a very fun match. Lots of cool action, hardly any dull moments at all. It's a nice treat to see the cruiserweights on RAW, they get a bit more time, and I feel that the crowd is much more appreciative, and seeing all their flips and amazing antics is probably best in a smaller arena. I also wanna say that the SmackDown! match was also very good, and that was a very close second.

I wanna just take a sec to apologise, the write-ups for NXT, ROH and LU aren't to a standard I really would've liked, but this week has been one with little energy for me, I really needed this break from school.

With that all in the recordings, the leaderboard is very reminiscent of this right here. And, I haven't given up on it in just a week, it's time for the Best Wrestling Quote of the Week;

We've seen Noah before here on NXT and Graves, this guy has a reputation as a bit of a creep - Tom Phillips

And that just about does it from me for this time around, hope the next seven of your days are filled to the brim with joy and hugs. See ya next time!
