BWOTW: 25/4/16 - 30/4/16

Its that time of the week bay-bay! Time for a brand new edition of 'Noah's Best Wrestling of the Week' AKA 'Fuck Sake'
It looks like this coming month will have a lot in store. I mean, my GCSEs start on the 16th but more importantly, there's a shit tonne of wrestling. So there's 2 WWE PPVs apparently - Payback on the night before a bank holiday, so live watching here I come, and Extreme Rules on the 22nd. The NJPW dominates the rest with Dontaku on the 3rd, the ROH cross promotional Global Wars on the 8th, another cross promotional show with NOAH, Lion's Gate Project 2, on the 19th (might watch, might not, who knows), then The Best of the Super Juniors on the 21st and 27th

NOVEMBER ECHO WHISKEY SIERRA -- NEWS (dunu-dunu-dunu-nu-nu)

  1. John Cena is returning on May 30th, thank Christ. We're getting to the stage where injured people are returning and it can only help things out right now
  2. News from Ring of Honour - Apparently the owners of the company are interested in purchasing TNA, or part of it. I have no idea how that would turn out, and also the COO has gone on record to say they would be interested in some sort of partnership with WWE, mentioning the possibility of having ROH TV on the Network. This sounds dope.
  3. NXT TAPING SPOILERS, so highlight if you're okay with knowing what'll be coming up the next few weeks: Long time TNA star and former World Champion Eric Young debuted at the latest tapings at Full Sail. Holy balls. I am really interested if they're going to do anything with joining these TNA alumni (Styles, Aries, Joe and soon Roode) together as a faction or some sort of storyline. Cant wait
  4. Zack Sabre Jr and Jack Gallagher have qualified for the WWE Global Cruiserweight Series, winning their matches at PROGRESS Chapter 29. Highlights and more can be found here on wwe.com, but I've put 'em below

And now for the meat and potatoes of this blog roast dinner, the best matches of the week....

Monday Night RAW

Best Match on Monday Night RAW (25/4/16): AJ Styles vs Sheamus

Kicking off this week he we see 'The Phenomenal One' AJ Styles facing off against Sheamus in the first match of RAW. I've heard how Sheamus prefers working on the stiff side of things, which is why him and Daniel Bryan got along in the ring well, and you could really see and hear it in this one. These two proper clattered each other with kicks and punches. At one point Sheamus threw AJ into the steel steps and the way AJ hit them fuckers and the way he landed on the floor was nasty business.
I just want to say as a side note here that I much prefer new Full Beard Sheamus than Pirate Beard Sheamus. Looks like an actual barbarian guy now.

Thursday Night SmackDown!

Best Match on SmackDown! (28/4/16): Godammit... The Miz vs Roman Reigns

Right, this week's edition of SD! wasn't amazing on the match front, so this is what came out as the best match of the night. Reigns is alright and Miz is good, especially when he can play up the heat in his matches. I do have some complaint with having the Intercontinental Champion lose before his title defence - somewhat damages the title, but The Miz did get a good amount of offence. And so in the end The Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale and pinned Reigns in the middle of the ring.

HAHAHA of course not Roman 'OOOOWAAAAHH'd and hit Miz with a spear. 1-2-3

NXT

Best Match on NXT (27/4/16): Shinsuke Nakamura vs Elias Samson

I was very disappointed when it turned out that they only showed a teeny bit of Joe/Balor from Lowell, but seeing that Nakamura was on cheered me up. He was facing Elias Samson, and this match made me realised how fucking jacked Samson is, he's built like a freaking shed. On TV, he seems to be getting more like a pissed off bruiser type heel, which I am all in favour for rather than an enigmatic guitar man. Anywho, it was a nice match to end the show and these tapings, I think. Elias held his own here, laying out Swagsuke big time here and there. But in the end, the King of Stong Style nailed Samson with the Kinshasa knee strike for the 1-2-3.

Ring of Honour

Best Match on ROH TV (23/4/16): The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs Katsuyori Shibata & reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish)

Right, Ring of Honour, upload your shit earlier, I dont wanna wait this long again - I'm writing this the day of the uploading and ROH is usually the first one to watch in the week. Still on the Honour Rising tapings on ROH TV, a little old but still awesome. Here we have The Elite of the Bullet Club taking on reDRagon and Shibata. I haven't seen much of Shibata, but if I have then I cant fucking remember it. Two things stood out to me about him: 1) He has a pretty jazzy theme 2) He has lovely hair. Its all nice and gelled to look like he's a 1950s dad/Clark Kent.
The match in question was real good. Its the first appearance of Kenny Goddamn Omega on this here blog, heads up, I love this man. The Elite had their comedic heel hats on and it was superb as usual. Not knowing much about Shibata, I had little inkling as to what he was like in the ring, turns out he hits people quite hard, dunno what I expected, New Japan everybody! I think O'Reilly is much more smiley in NJPW, given his entrance being all grinny the little cutie-pie. Lots of cool action going on here, and I must admit I think I like Omega's tope con hilo more than Zayn's, especially with the Terminator theme claps/bangs to go with it. Overall, quality stuff.

SUPERKICK COUNT: 9 (Average for a Bucks match)

The Verdict

Best Match of the Week: The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs Katsuyori Shibata & reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish)

I just praised this above, so I don't feel like the selection needs much explanation. This match did pick up a pretty easy win, WWE haven't had the best of weeks wrestling-match-wise. Hopefully Payback and the new set of NXT tapings will spice things up a next week.

Here's what the leaderboard looks like now

That's it from me, have fun buds.
