Hey there readers and welcome to this first edition since WrestleMania, it's 'Noah's Best Wrestling of the Week' AKA 'PostpatuMania Depression'
![]() |
Thank You Taker |
- Good lordy loo we've had some title changes. Brock Lesnar is the new Universal Champion, Randy Orton is the new WWE World Champion, Kevin Owens is the new WWE United States Champion, Naomi is the new SmackDown! Women's Champion and holy fuck-a-loo balls, The Hardy Boyz are back and are the RAW Tag Team Champions! Lots of shouts and hollers happened in my house when that theme hit.
- We had some NXT stars make their main roster debuts this week! The Top Guys of The Revival debuted on RAW (seemingly taking Kofi Kingston out in the process), and SmackDown! saw the arrivals of Tye Dillinger and Shinsuke Nakamura! Good times.
- Kurt Angle is now the General Manager of RAW! If this past week was anything to go by, he is gonna be having some great segments.
- Onto returns now, and Finn Balor made his comeback on RAW, having been out with injury since the night after SummerSlam where he had to vacate the WWE Universal Championship. In regards to SmackDown!, Erick Rowan's back. Yay.
- It has been announced that on the next episodes of RAW and SmackDown! there is going to be a 'Superstar Shake-Up', looking to switch up the rosters a bit. Fear the worst.
- Triple H has confirmed that the next NXT TakeOver will be in Chicago, IL on the 20th May, the night before Backlash. Not a lot of time to build I reckon, but it'll be interesting where they go with it.
- At Axxess WWE formally announced the long speculated Women's Tournament. It was said the 32 women representing 17 countries will be competing in this, and from the looks of it, will include women from all current rosters (RAW, SmackDown! and NXT) plus some outside talent maybe. This should be on the Network over the summer.
And now for the bananas in the fruit bowl of a wrestling blog, it's the matches!
Best Match on RAW (3/4/17): The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff Hardy) vs The Club (Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) - RAW Tag Team Championship Match
It's the biggest RAW of the year, the night after WrestleMania. Winning me over this time around was Gallows and Anderson's championship rematch, with them facing off against the returning Hardy Boyz.
I'm loving The Club's methods of cutting the ring off and beating the shit out of their opponents. There's not a lot that I love more than Gallows' clattering superkicks or Anderson's big fucking boots to the face, just something so satisfying about them.
Though they didn't get to show off a whole lot in the ladder match at 'Mania, or at Supercard of Honour due to much of a fucking massacre both matches were, The Hardys still have that flair in the ring. They had their classic tandem offence, adjusted for age in places, and Jeff's hot tag was great, with us getting to see some Poetry in Motion using the steps!
I think this was a pretty snappy match, not a lot of down time whatsoever, always something going on. The Club switched it up enough to keep things fresh with their working over of Matt (whose mix of Team Extreme and #BROKEN Brilliance I am loving). The ending saw the classic Hardy Boyz combo lay out Gallows for the champions to retain;
I thought this match was great, The Club didn't look too bad in defeat (it took two Twists of Fate and a Swanton to put Gallows down) and it did a wonderful job of solidifying Matt and Jeff as the champions.
We found out later that night that we'd be getting the Hardys versus Sheamus and Cesaro (duh-duh d-duh-duh) at some point, probably Payback, which should be awesome. Plus, with the new arrivals, I'm dreaming of Hardys/Revival somewhere down the line.
We've got a street match here on SmackDown! featuring Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose heading up against his 'Mania Kickoff Show opponent, Baron Corbin, and there isn't a whole lot else to say about it other than they caused some mass destruction in the Amway Centre. It was just an all out brawl, with the two buys beating ten tonnes of piss outta each other. Corbin even had a strap at one point, though Dean wearing a shirt kind of dampened the effect of it, didn't sound as bad as it most probably felt.
So yeah, if you wanna see a big weapons fest with two lads destroying furniture and each other, this one's for you. It's a shame there wasn't something amazing, because this was actually a real good episode of SmackDown!.
It's some more multi-man mayhem on 205 Live this week, with a shot at Neville's WWE Cruiserweight Championship up for grabs. Gunning for it, we have Austin Aries, Jack Gallagher, TJ Perkins and Mustafa Ali.
Now this was a great, fast paced match-up. With this being one fall to a finish, opposed to the other week's elimination stipulation, we got to see people coming together more, rather than letting each other pick someone off. This also created some more less instances of teamwork, and more occasions for people getting inserting themselves in conflicts. So, we got stuff like this happening;
I haven't been able to find a clip of Gallagher nailing Ali, who was on the top rope, with his running dropkick. Sent the fucker flying and it looked absolutely awesome. God it was cool.
Overall, I thought this match was pretty damn good indeed. Lots of exciting stuff bell to bell, and lots of fun to watch. I definitely recommend checking this one out.
Taking us more independent now, we've got Ring of Honour, with this latest episode seeing the company's World Television Championship being put on the line, with 'The Villain' Marty Scurll defending against Kenny King of The Rebellion.
I felt like this match was a little underwhelming. Marty is a great champion who has been putting on great match after great match in his reign. However, I feel like maybe being put against Kenny King wasn't the strongest pairing. I'm not the biggest fan of King anyway, and I don't know exactly what it was, but this match felt like it could have been so much more. It was fine, and I'm sure there are people out there who really liked this, but I just couldn't get really into it. Not sure what it was, but if you are looking for a quality Marty Scurll title defence, go check out his match with Cole at Supercard of Honour XI.

SmackDown! LIVE
Best Match on SD! (4/4/17): Dean Ambrose vs Baron Corbin - Street Fight

205 Live
Best Match on 205 (4/4/17): Jack Gallagher vs TJ Perkins vs Mustafa Ali vs Austin Aries - No.1 Contender's Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship

NXT
Best Match on NXT (5/4/17): Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight & Otis Dozovic) vs The Bollywood Boys (Harv & Gurv Sihra)
I fucking love Heavy Machinery, and here they are again, this time squaring up against The Bollywood Boys. It's rare that a bonafide squash match makes it onto BWOTW, but I thought this match was great, plus the other's on the show didn't do a whole lot for me. Of the two mammoths, I think Otis is my favourite, but I do love Tucker's train noise before he runs people over. The Bollywood Boys have changed up their look a bit, namely facial hair.
As for the match itself, Heavy Machinery did a whole lot of beating people up. They did the cool bear hug toss that made me fall in love with them, and they had a new finisher this week; imagine a Mark Henry-esque World's Strongest Slam, but Mark also had his huge friend jump on his back, dropping more weight down.
It wasn't a terribly long match, but I liked it, and it's my blog dammit!

The Verdict
Best Match of the Week: Jack Gallagher vs TJ Perkins vs Mustafa Ali vs Austin Aries - No.1 Contender's Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship - 205 Live
205 Live takes the top prize again this week, with the fatal-four-way being crowned as my best match of the week. I felt that this match was much more fun and exciting to watch compared to everything else this week, having some memorable spots and a consistent supply of action throughout. Seek it out if you have the time.
With another week in the books that just leaves two things needing to be done before we call it a day here on BWOTW. First let us take a quick look at the updated leaderboard (adjusted for inflation) - by the way, whenever I open it, it always pops up with last season's results first, is that just for me or does anyone know why? - and then secondly to reward 'The Best Promo of the Week' which takes us to SmackDown! to see 'John and Nikki' say farewell for the time being to the WWE Universe, ft. Miz and Maryse (I didn't realise it was them til embarrassingly late into it)
That does it from me for this week guys/gals/gandalfs, and be sure to come back next week, there's gonna be some New Japan in there and that's always a treat. I hope the next 168 or so hours are filled with smiles, good sandwiches, sleep and so much love. I'll catch your ass down the road!
