BWOTFortnight: 4/7/16 - 16/7/16

This is the best I could come up with to make this blog maintain its quality whilst I'm away. So, now that I'm home, welcome to this edition of 'Noah's Best Wrestling of the Past Two Weeks' AKA 'Jet-Lagged As Fuck'.

I dunno whether to do news, might be a tad out of date.

Just so you know, I'm writing this since getting home, so I might not have the best memory when talking about all these matches, I noted them down as I went, I guess this is mainly for keeping up appearances and for keeping my leaderboard nice and clean. Prepare for some sorta shitty overviews. Speaking of the matches, here they are...

Week 1

Monday Night RAW

Best Match on RAW (4/7/16): Seth Rollins vs Dolph Ziggler

It's the 'SUPER AMERICA INDEPENDENCE YEAH MOTHERFUCKER' 4th of July episode of RAW, so patriotism was everywhere. Nice match here, and a welcome shake up from the minor tweaks to rivalry matches. Ziggler was swinging his superkicks like a motherfucker in this one, proper going for them. Yeah I can't remember much at all. Sorry reader people.

Thursday Night SmackDown!

Best Match on SD! (7/716): Chris Jericho vs Sami Zayn

Again, so sorry, I can't really remember much at all. I sleepily watched this after a long day and might have slept through portions, not sure. I think Zayn stole Jericho's scarf, or that might just be a strange dream I had

NXT

Best Match on NXT (6/7/16): American Alpha (Jason Jordan & Chad Gable) vs The Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) - 2 out of 3 Falls NXT Tag Team Championship Match

SAY YEAAH! Now this one I do remember because it was another beautiful classic between these two teams. They just keep getting better between these teams. The sequences of counters and new combinations keeps getting more complex and more exciting and goddamn I LOVE IT. I really liked The Revival's targeting of Jordan's arm and having him submit to it to even the score was a smart move. With these type of matches, just using finishers as a winner for a fall can sort of make the following time seem lessened seeing as they are meant to be a definitive end. Another awesome match here, amazing stuff.

Ring of Honour

We got some more bloody replays from ROH this week, being the 250th episode they had a look at some of the highlights and whatever, but they were all kinda recent matches. Had Ishii/Fish if you missed it on PPV and wanted to catch it.

The Verdict

Best Match of Week 1: American Alpha (Jason Jordan & Chad Gable) vs The Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) - 2 out of 3 Falls NXT Tag Team Championship Match - NXT

Like I said, just plain great. A great end to this rivalry on NXT, hopefully we get more of this sometime in the future. Goddamn these guys have great matches. It was all so fluid and it all meshed together wonderfully.

Week 2

Monday Night RAW

Best Match on RAW (11/7/16): Kevin Owens vs Cesaro

Again, I can't remember much about this match, but we've seen these two face off so many times lately and its always been some great stuff, so y'know, it's good.

Thursday Night SmackDown!

Best Match on SD! (14/7/16): Kevin Owens & Seth Rollins vs Sami Zayn & Dean Ambrose

Now I watched this since getting home so I remember this one a bit better. Owens had his mouthing off game on point, which makes his matches that much more fun to watch. Zayn was put in a position to do some really major stuff in this match, getting some real damage on Rollins, and with him being in the Battleground main event and the former world champion, it shows WWE are taking steps to build Zayn up a bit. Dean did his usual stuff coming from the hot tag, bit samey but hey, it's a mixed feud tag match so we weren't expecting pure gold here lads.

Goodbye Thursday nights, it was a short run but you had some good stuff. Time to go LIVE!

NXT

Best Match on NXT (13/7/16): Shinsuke Nakamura vs Finn Balor

Receiving 4 stars from Grandaddy Meltzer, this match was pretty damn good. Although this does win a technicality win being the only match on the episode, it doesn't matter because this was the best match on NXT TV for quite some time. We had a nice slower start that ramped up ten fold. Big money spots, had the finisher variants of a reverse 1916 from Finn and a flying back of the head Kinshasa (read as Corey Graves: KIN-SHA-SAAAAAAAA). The kickouts made things so dramatic and exciting. Balor beat the bejeezus out of Nak's knee, and did so ruthlessly. A kick sent it bending the wrong way and good lord above it looked painful, Nak's screams portrayed it that way anyway. High intensity, high impact, high excitement. A great overall match.

Cruiserweight Classic

Best Match on CWC (Episode 1): Kota Ibushi vs Sean Maluta

First off, look at these beautiful match graphics.

Street Fighter as fuck

Anywho, ITS FUCKING HERE GUYS! CRUI-SER-WEIGHT! CRUI-SER-WEIGHT! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

(Remember guys, you can find a guide to all the competitors, except Mustafa Ali who replaced Zumbi after I published the fucker)

The best match on this first episode was Kota Ibushi versus Sean Maluta. Just some insanely cool shit in this match. I feel like in these early rounds the matches are running a bit short due to there only being so much time to tape matches and get them all ready to fit the schedule, but they're still goddamn awesome.
It's been quite a while since I last saw Ibushi, and it was a thrill to see him pull out so much cool stuff in this one, I'm guessing some have been told to hold off on the big guns til later in the tournament (waiting for that Phoenix Splash, Kota). Maluta also did some damn cool stuff too, even a botch looked awesome. Amazing stuff.

Even the theme for the tournament is awesome

BRING ON THE GIFS!

Ring of Honour

Best Match on ROH TV: Donovan Dijak vs Jason Kincaid

Jesus Christ I seriously wasn't expecting this match to be as good as it was. Dijak always manages to surprise and impress me, and it has been a while since I've since Kincaid on ROH TV. These guys absolutely destroyed each other with the amount of use of the barricades here, just sheer brutal action. Kincaid did this incredible spot that included him standing on the corner post - not the top turnbuckle, not the top rope, the actual fucking post - and doing a great frankensteiner type manoeuvre. God knows what ROH is doing with Dijak at the minute but by God he can put on an amazing match.

In all, this was one of the better episodes of Ring of Honour so far this year; this match, a great tag title match I really liked (maybe because it had Silas Young who I fucking love), an entertaining Fish Tank (Bobby Fish's talk show thing) with the main eventers, ACH and Mark Briscoe in a Number 1 Contender's match for the TV Title. Hopefully ROH keeps up this good a programming.

The Verdict

Best Match of Week 2: Shinsuke Nakamura vs Finn Balor - NXT

Although the Ibushi/Maluta was fucking insane, I feel this match was a better match overall. It had more substance to it, more psychology going into whereas the other was mainly non-stop cool shit, which don't get me wrong was so goddamn cool, sorta PWG-style. So that's what did it for me. Finnsuke wins.

With the results in here is what the leaderboard looks like now. And just like that mes amis, we are back on track to keep viewing, discussing, analysing and loving the Best Wrestling of the Week.
