And just in case you've ever wanted to see Homer Simpson as Steve Blackman, here you go
Get the papers, its time to look at the news:
- Seth's pretty much recovered. FUCKING YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
- Stephanie McMahon is writing a book about her life. Nobody asked for it but its coming.
- Joe vs Balor at TakeOver has been confirmed to be NXT's first ever Steel Cage Match, Coooooooool. Now I'm excited as to what sort of cage they use. They've been doing a shit tonne of Facebook Live stuff so liking them on there is pretty good.
- We have a logo people!
Time for the matches now! Let's see what we've got...
Monday Night RAW
Best Match on RAW (16/5/16): Cesaro & The Miz vs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens
Initially this was Cesaro vs Zayn, which would've been great, but after some dickery it would've been Cesaro & Zayn vs Kev & Miz - we've seen this like 4 times so that wouldn't have been very exciting. Buuuuuuuuuut it became KO/Zayn vs Miz/Cesaro (or, what I just came up with, Mizaro), meaning we got a Generico/Steen throw back! I was so fucking amped.
Owens and Zayn weren't a happy couple, near every tag was a big ol' smack and Kev just moaned at poor Sami for everything. Mizaro weren't very happy either, in the end Cesaro even used Miz's own finisher against him. During the actual match it seemed that it was a roll of the dice as to who had the momentum. Cesaro, then Kev, then Sami was in, then Cesaro, then Miz, then Zayn, then Kev and Jesus it was everywhere. We had a nice little team up with a Mitchinoku Driver into a running senton from Zayn and KO. Kev even got a nice hot tag. Although Kevin is such a wonderful heel and should be like this forever, I want these two to have some sort of tag run, like how Stone Cold would win tag titles with people he didn't like. Not sure if that'll happen because Sami got superkicked by Kevin after the match. Happy days.

Best Match on SD! (19/5/16): Kevin Owens vs Cesaro
Once again in the build to the Intercontinental Championship match, the participants are putting on great matches on the weekly television shows. And once again, Kevin Owens and Cesaro are the ones that are shining. This match had a bit of distraction watching it from Miz and Maryse being on commentary, they're heels and should be annoying, but fucking hell man this got really jarring after a couple minutes. Sami was fine talking though. Anywho, despite having a pay-per-view match coming up on the horizon, these two didn't half-arse it at all. Chops, uppercuts, outside stuff, lots of hard hitting moments in this one. Owens was especially scream-y in this match, yelping every time Cesaro picked him up in any way, its a nice way to convey emotion other than anger. Towards the end, Cesaro acted as the anti-bullshit patrol; he punched Sami when he was about to get involved and punched Miz when he was about to get involved. Kevin won with a roll up and laughed his way up the ramp. Lovely match this.
NXT
Best Match on NXT (18/5/16): Bayley vs Nia Jax
It's a rematch from TakeOver: London, and at first I was worried it would be very similar. But, these two shook it up and put on a top quality match. As with pretty much all of Nia's matches to date, they played up the big/small dynamic, which really seems to be the only option, like Big Show matches, but better. Nia kicked the piss out of Bayley for the better part of the match, and there's nothing I love more than some good ol' fashioned limb targeting. Not only is it helpful for submissions in WWE 2K16, but it adds some peril and intellect to a match. Here, it was Bayley's left arm that took some damage. Nia is really stepping up her game and expanding her moveset, she's got things going for her. Bayley did get some back on Nia, had a cool outside hurricanrana worked some more chokes in akin to TakeOver, but ultimately, and surprisingly to me, Bayley got pinned clean after a Nia leg drop. They were playing up a knee/leg injury that occurred in match after an awkward landing, so whether they're going to keep her off TV or what is interesting. Perhaps it could be the start of her going to the main roster, who knows? WWE probably.
Oh also, one thing that annoyed me was some yappy cunt who for some reason really hated Bayley.

Right, so, we're now waiting for the tapings from War of the Worlds tour. Until then, we've got this 'Best of Jay Lethal' episode. Now, in its own right, this episode is jam packed with quality; vs Briscoe @ Final Battle 2014, vs AJ Styles @ Final Battle 2015, vs Roderick at whenever that was, Glory by Honour? Plus, I'm glad ROH are back on their upload schedule. However, this blog is devoted to the best wrestling of the week. I let the Honour Rising episodes slide because I hadn't seen most of the matches, plus it was fairly recent. I would thoroughly recommend watching this on the ROH website, especially if you're looking to expand your wrestling watching horizons, and wonder why Lethal is up their in contention for 'Best in the World'.
The Verdict
Best Match of the Week: Bayley vs Nia Jax - NXT (18/5/16)
Like I said, this match was pretty damn great. They told a similar story, but pulled told it massively different. Nia being even more destructive and dominant than their first encounter, Bayley on the back-foot even more so and a unique finish. The main roster shows are relying pretty heavily on the IC Title scene for the matches, which is pretty reminiscent of the 80s; World Title for your big names, Intercontinental for your workhouses and your show-stoppers. That's not to say The Miz is the best wrestler, I didn't say there couldn't be exceptions. And with that, here's what the leaderboard looks like now.
Have a good one guys.
